There are two distinct parts to this journey.  First, we went to try all of the food stands in the newly developed part of the Brooklyn Bridge Park.  Second, we discovered the beautiful views and the truly well designed public space.  This time Steve’s got the food reviews.  See Food Stands.  My part is the photo journal of the park.

So we began at the old section of the park known as the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park.  This is the one and only old familiar shot…

Since the skyline has changed a bit, here is a photo of the completed Gehry Building from Brooklyn…

Next we moved on to the new Piers walking from the updated Pier 1 through the construction zone to Pier 6, which is near completion.  It seems they are now running a NY Waterways Ferry service to Pier 6 which will get you there with far less physical effort.  From there you can also walk up to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.  Check out the East River Ferry schedule below. There is special weekend recreational service to the pier until all of the construction is complete.

Pier One includes many new food stands, tons of park bench space and some truly great ideas like the stadium seating facing the manhattan view below…

Of course there is a ‘great lawn’ in the center…

Then we walked up the lovely cobblestoned Joralemon St. in the Brooklyn Heights Historical District to the Promenade…

And discovered an adorable cafe…

We walked from Battery Park City across the Brooklyn Bridge, then thru Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn Heights, the Promenade, back across the Bridge and to Battery Park.  This was an 8 mile journey by Steve’s Nike + iPhone App calculations.  This trip is not for the weak on a hot sunny day.  If you’d like the shorter version, try the NYWaterways ferry.

And if you do decide to walk it…don’t be a jackhole and wear flip flops like I did.  Today I cannot walk and we couldn’t go to Cold Spring on the Hudson hiking.
