Sweet Grapes Wine Bar
Wine Bar, Local Hangout
39 Essex Street – Lower East Side
Our friend Liz Weber guest bar tended at this new LES Wine Bar. It is a cute little spot and I think quite welcome in the neighborhood. They just opened recently and are looking for staff. Liz’ following all showed up and it was a great time.
The bar is quite small, but the wine selection was nice and well priced. I’m not recommending this as a destination if you do not live on the Lower East Side, but if you do it seems like a good local hangout. As far as decor goes, it is a bit lacking. But it has exposed brick walls which always help. We did notice plastic grapes outside that really need to go (see photo). And we sat right next to one of those tacky electric fireplaces. It was throwing some heat, which was nice on a cool evening, but I am thinking the space would be better served as a two-top bar height table (just a suggestion for additional occupancy).
Anyway, thanks Liz for the invite. We had a great time. Next time we are in that hood we know where to get a glass of wine. We tried Fat Radish that night since it is around the corner. We enjoyed that immensely!
