JM Curley – Boston

Way up in the north-east there is this gastropub… gastropub I wanna tell ya about.  Gastropub by the name of JM Curley.  At least that was the handle the owner gave it but it’s regulars call it Curley’s.  Now, “Curley’s” – that’s a name no one would self-apply where I come from.  But then there was a lot about Curley’s that didn’t make a whole lot of sense.  And a lot about where it is … Continue reading

The Growler Bites & Brews – CLOSED now Underdog

Bar, Pub, Gastro-Pub 55 Stone Street – Financial District The Growler is located on historic Stone Street in downtown Manhattan.  It is a pedestrian-only cobblestone street lined with restaurants and bars.  In the summer, all of the establishments place tables out in the street.  It gets a bit packed.  Generally, this street is very busy on weeknights based on its close proximity to Wall Street.  Enough said there.  However, on the weekends, it is … Continue reading

Penny Farthing

Irish Pub 103 Third Ave. @ 13th St. – East Village We stopped by the Penny Farthing for the first time on Wednesday night during the snowstorm. We’d like to go back another time and get a feel for the … Continue reading

Minetta Tavern

Minetta Tavern

The Wren

bar/restaurant, pub, gastro-pub 344 Bowery – Soho The Wren is located on the old Sala space, RIP. And it is a welcome change. The Wren is owned by the team from Wilfie & Nell, a lovely little spot in the West Village. This is a far more spacious version. The atmosphere is quite warm despite high ceilings and a fairly cavernous space. We dropped by early during a Giants game to grab some food … Continue reading

Shoolbreds – CLOSED

Bars/Pubs 197 Second Avenue – East Village Dark, dark, dark. Working fireplace with lounge area is key. Happy hour daily from 4-8 with buy one get one draught beers and well drinks. Plenty of good beers on tap. The mac and cheese, Shepard’s Pie and Artichoke dip are all good – served in cast iron pots. They all stick to the ribs and soaks up the beer…and we love Michele, she remembered us the … Continue reading
